59 Rodney Street, Liverpool has a unique photographic history and Spoken-Image were able to use a contemporary techniques to enable people to tour the property from the comfort of a computer terminal on the buildings' ground floor. Most historic properties have disabled access problems and this virtual tour goes a long way to addressing these issues.
The property was the home and work place of Edward Chambre Hardman, Liverpool portrait and landscape photographer. It is the only known British photographic studio of the mid-20th century where the photographers entire output has been preserved intact.
The fully interactive tour features specially shot digital VR panoramas of each room in the house. These VR panoramas are the next best thing to being there and allow the user to rotate through 360 within a room and zoom in and out to view object in more detail. Unique archive audio clips featuring recordings of Mr. Hardman and some of his staff are also included and give an insight into what life was like at Rodney Street in a bygone era, while a gallery section includes a selection of images that can be 'flicked' through one by one. Finally, detailed text accompanied by photography of some of the different objects in the rooms complete the interactive experience.
A truly interactive virtual tour that allows all visitors to explore the property in detail!
