Urban Splash
A series of videos documenting the development of New Islington in East Manchester
The 30 acre site includes a failed 1970’s council housing estate called the Cardroom, and is a government designated Millennium Community. The video was aimed at Manchester City Council and their partners, and conveys the enthusiasm of Urban Splash Chairman, Tom Bloxham. The submission was successful. They won the contract!
Since then we have filmed many aspects of work on this unique project, documenting key events in the development of 'New Islington'. In 2006 the first residents moved into their new homes - with their award winning distinctive façades designed by FAT.
But the story isn't finished yet ... Will Alsop's 'CHIPS' is nearing completion, 'Tutti Fruti' offers individuals the chance to design their own dream home, 'Urban Barns', The Botanic scheme... all of these will make New Islington an iconic Millennium Community.
